Course overview
Poor oral health is one of the most common — and most preventable — harms in aged care. The Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety found that mouth care was frequently overlooked, contributing to pain, malnutrition and preventable hospital admissions. The Strengthened Aged Care Quality Standards now set clear expectations for providers to support the oral health of every person in their care.

This microcourse is for aged care workers in residential and home-based settings, as well as team leaders and clinical governance staff. In 15 minutes, you will build the practical skills to perform daily oral care, recognise common problems such as oral thrush, tooth decay and dry mouth, and know when and how to refer to dental, speech pathology or medical services.

This course treats oral health as part of dignified, person-centred care — not an add-on task. Every person deserves a clean, comfortable mouth.
