Evidence‑Based Content
• Aged Care Act 2024 (Department of Health and Aged Care) — informs the duty of care obligations and person-centred care principles that underpin oral health practice in this course
• Strengthened Aged Care Quality Standards (Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission) — sets the quality expectations for oral health support that this course helps workers meet at the point of care
• Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety final report — identified neglect of oral health as a systemic issue and its recommendations directly shape the referral and recognition skills taught in this course
This microcourse is for aged care workers in residential and home-based settings, as well as team leaders and clinical governance staff. In 15 minutes, you will build the practical skills to perform daily oral care, recognise common problems such as oral thrush, tooth decay and dry mouth, and know when and how to refer to dental, speech pathology or medical services.
This course treats oral health as part of dignified, person-centred care — not an add-on task. Every person deserves a clean, comfortable mouth.
